Is this plug polarized or non-polarized?

With the Color Cord Company 2-prong plug end, you’re getting a non-polarized product. In non-polarized plug ends, both prongs are the same size and will work in either orientation. On a polarized plug end, one blade is wider than the other and only fits into the outlet one way.

How can you tell which prong is hot?

In a polarized plug end where one prong is narrower than the other, the narrow prong is the hot side while the wide prong is the neutral side. Because of this, even if you manage to force the prongs into an outlet in the wrong orientation, the fixture still won’t work.

How do you wire this prong to a light fixture?

To wire our 2-prong plug replacement to your light fixture, you’ll need to strip the wires under the cloth-covered cord to expose them. Then, attach the neutral wire to one screw and the hot wire to the other screw. Reassemble the prong plug by snapping the housing closed.

Can you use a 2-prong plug in a 3-prong outlet?

Yes, it is safe to use a 2-prong plug in a 3-prong outlet. As long as the third hole in the outlet remains empty, there is no safety risk. Furthermore, our double-prong products use extra insulation so that they don’t require a grounding wire.

Please note that using any prong configuration with high-power requirements or in wet conditions can be dangerous. Do not use extension cords or prong replacements for heavy-load appliances, power tools, or outdoors. Use only outdoor-rated products for exteriors.
