Cord Stay Overview

A cord stay keeps cord running along a wall or across a ceiling exactly where you want it. Thread the cord through the base and screw on the cover to hold the cord in place.

Color Cord Company customers use it most often on wall sconces, by pinning the cord flat against the wall. It also works as a ceiling hook for low-weight fixtures, so it’s no wonder that it’s one of our most popular small parts.

Cord Wall Holder or Ceiling Hook

The cord stay fits a quarter-inch diameter cord and measures 25/32 inch across by 9/16 inch tall, small enough to disappear once installed.

Mounted on a wall, it functions as a wall holder that keeps cord taut with no sag. Mounted overhead, it doubles as a swag hook rated for 3 pounds.

That’s enough to carry a lightweight pendant. It’s available in Solid Raw Brass, Nickel, Black, White, and Raw Metal to match your fixture’s hardware.

Installation Notes

Each cord stay includes a wood screw, a hex key for the anti-spin set screw, and a drywall anchor. The set screw keeps the cover from twisting loose.

Install into a stud or joist if you need the full 3-pound weight rating. Use the included drywall anchor instead if you’re only guiding cord or mounting the cord wall holder into drywall alone.

It’s sized for Color Cord Company cord, and fitment isn’t guaranteed for other cord brands of the same diameter.

How to Hang a Plug-In Pendant Light with a Cord Stay

Wondering how to hang a plug-in pendant light without drilling a large ceiling hook? Route the pendant’s cord through a piece near the canopy, then screw the cover into place.

If it will carry the pendant’s weight, install it into a ceiling joist. Use the included drywall anchor if you’re only guiding the cord.

Please note: The Cord Stay is designed for Color Cord Company cord (¼" diameter) — it may work with similar third-party cord, but we can't guarantee fit outside our own line. When used as a hook to bear weight, it's rated for 3 lbs and only when installed into a stud. If you're not installing into a stud, or not bearing any weight beyond guiding the cord, use the included drywall anchor instead. Also note: Polished Copper is discontinued on this product and will not be restocked.

Raw Metal and Raw Brass finishes are untreated and may rust or have imperfections over time — ideal for an industrial look or DIY painting, but not recommended if you prefer a consistently polished finish.
