Instructions

All it takes to learn how to install flush mount lighting into your junction box is five simple steps. Carefully read every step thoroughly before jumping in and getting started! You don’t want to get halfway through only to realize you’ve done something wrong. And, if you have any doubts about installing your fixture, reach out to a local electrician to give you a helping hand.

STEP 1: TURN EVERYTHING OFF

The first thing you must do is turn off the light switch and breaker! The last thing you need is to get zapped by the conductor wires coming from an active junction box. As long as you start with this step, this entire process shouldn't cause you pain (we hope)!

STEP 2: ATTACHING THE MOUNTING PLATE

The next step in how you install flush mount lighting is attaching the canopy mounting plate to your junction box using the provided screws. Feed the conductor wires through the large middle hole of the canopy plate. Make sure you are using the larger mounting plate screws and not the smaller canopy screws.

STEP 3: WIRING

connecting the correct wires together

The next step in the process is to twist together the corresponding conductor wires from the fixture to the junction box wires. Here are the color matching designations to help you get it right.

  • Black to Black Positive
  • White to White Negative
  • Green Ground to Bare Copper Ground

More often than not, the ground wire in your junction box will be bare copper. Secure each of these using the provided wire nuts, then wrap them with electrical tape to prevent them from moving or slipping.

STEP 4: SECURING THE CANOPY

Push all wires up into the junction box and secure your ceiling canopy to the mounting plate with the provided canopy screws. These are the smaller screws in the kit — not the larger mounting plate screws.

If you bought your flush mount lighting kit with us, you can expect the screws to match your preferred custom finish. However, if you bought your screws separately, you may have a harder time getting the perfect color match.

STEP 5: SCREWING IN LIGHT BULBS

This is our favorite step by far! Add your favorite indoor light bulbs, flip your breaker, and light switch back on. Enjoy your new gorgeous lighting!

You may decide that you want a lamp shade or bulb cage to complete the look of your fixture.
