How to Wire a Thumb Switch
Beau WynjaTakeaways:
- A thumb switch is a handheld light switch placed directly inline with your lighting cord for easier access to light control.
- To wire a thumb switch, you’ll need the thumb switch, a wire cutting and stripping tool, tape, needle-nose pliers, a razor, a flat head screwdriver, pliers, and your color cord.
- Use the tape to mark the desired location for the thumb switch and then cut the wire housing along the two tape marks.
- Completely remove the cloth and housing between the two tape marks to expose the wires. You’ll see three wire colors: white, black, and green.
- Cut the black wire down the middle, stripping both ends and twisting them. These ends go underneath the two tabs on the thumb switch.
- Secure the black wires in place, put the green and white wires inside the thumb switch housing, and secure the cover.
